As rumoured, Samsung has announced the next iteration of its Galaxy Gear smartwatches. Interestingly, the new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo lose the Galaxy branding as the watches are powered by Tizen’s “wearable platform” instead of Android. Specs-wise, we’re looking at a watch with 1.63-inch 320×320 Super AMOLED display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, Bluetooth 4.0, Samsung WatchON with infrared port, a 2MP camera with 720p video recording (Gear 2 only), IP67 certification for water and dust resistance.
Moreover, the new watches are now integrated with heart rate sensor and features pedometer, S Voice, music player, ChatON, 300mAh battery that can give upto 3 days of run time, a big step up from the previous generation.
Both watches will be available from April in colour options of Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange for Gear 2 and Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange for Gear 2 Neo.
