I’ve got a second generation iPod touch that I had bought mainly to use as a casual gaming device. The device served the purpose well until Apple decided to drop the iOS update support and since then, the latest iOS for that device is v4.2.1. While there are many apps that support the OS version, iTunes App Store isn’t really user-friendly when it comes to search specific compatible apps.
Thankfully, Apple has activated a feature today that will prove really handy to users who own older iOS devices. The store lists the latest version of the app but if you try and install the app that is unsupported, the store will offer to download an older version of the app that was compatible with the device.
Really nifty as users won’t have to specifically search which apps will work with their device but instead the store will notify to download the older version or in some cases, ask you to upgrade to the minimum iOS version required to successfully install.
All a user needs to take advantage of this feature is browse through the App Store and install an app. App Store will do the rest.
