Garmin today introduced a new GPS device for hikers and the ilk called as Monterra. The handheld device boasts an IPX7 waterproof rating and comes with a variety of features suited for users doing a lot of outdoor activity.
Garmin says it takes “GPS to a whole new level” with users able to “take advantage of the features no matter how adverse the terrain may be”. The Monterra is equipped with a 4-inch display, a 3-axis compass with accelerometer and gyro, barometer, UV sensor to monitor the intensity of the sun, 3D MapMerge that allows to combine two maps and is BaseCamp compatible.
Additionally, Monterra features an 8MP camera with full HD 1080p video recording support, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot Wi-Fi, ANT+, NFC, Bluetooth 3.0 and a dual-battery system that works with the regular Li-ion battery included with the phone or AA batteries.
The Garmin Monterra will go on sale in Q3 2013 in US for $649.99 that will be preloaded with worldwide basecamp and $699.99 for preloaded TOPO US 100K with Navteq roads.
