Picture this: You’ve come back from a family vacation with lots of photos and videos stored on the camera only to find some of the images were accidentally deleted. Or worse – the memory card is completely corrupted. For instances like this, Stellar’s Phoenix Photo Recovery 5 software promises to recover it. But does it deliver? We take a look.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery 5 claims to recover deleted content as well as content from corrupted storage devices like memory cards, hard drives, USB flash drives, cameras etc. Interestingly, the software is also able to recover different types of audio files, videos in addition to images.

Using the software is really easy. The main screen is greeted with three options – to recover lost files, create an image of a corrupted drive that can be later used for a recovery and resume a recovery process.

To test the app, we used a 4GB flash drive, loaded the drive with some images and then formatted the drive.

Hitting the big blue ‘Recovery’ button instantly detects the removable drive. However, if you wish, you can even select partitions from the hard drive to be scanned for deleted content.

Scanning a drive or a memory card could take a while depending on the size but Stellar claims the software can easily recover items from drives with up to 2TB of storage space. The final result is convincing as the software managed to recover all the ‘lost files’ with an option to save all or few of them onto the computer.

The Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery 5 is an impressive, easy-to-use software that supports both Windows and Mac OS. The regular version sells for $39 while the Photo Recovery+ that includes some premium services sells for $49.

Rating:
Pros: Easy to use, Recovers efficiently, Option to resume recovery
Cons: NA
