How big a phone’s display should be is a question we’ve often asked ourselves but according to the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer there is a market for smartphones larger than 5.5-inches. Today, Samsung announced the Galaxy Mega series that consists of two devices – Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3.
Both are decently spec’d devices but are below the biggest Galaxy Note II phablet. Anyways, both phones run Android 4.2 and will bring the latest UI enhancements which Samsung has been integrating in the Jelly Bean OS. For instance, Multi-window along with Group Play, WatchON, Air View, S Translator etc. will make its way into the devices.
On the hardware side, Galaxy Mega 5.8 comes with a 5.8-inch display with qHD resolution, 1.4GHz dual-core CPU, HSPA+, 1.5GB RAM, dual-SIM support, 8MP and 1.9MP cameras, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot and 2600mAh battery.
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 features a larger 6.3-inch HD (720p) TFT screen and LTE for faster internet connectivity. Rest of the features include a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 8MP rear and 1.9MP front-facing cameras, 8 or 16GB internal memory, microSD card slot and 3200mAh battery.
Samsung hasn’t revealed the price but expects to sell the Galaxy Mega phones from May in Europe and Russia and rolling out to other countries gradually.
