Google’s Indian unit is being investigated over its recently concluded Mapathon contest. The contest allowed Google users to add, edit places on Google Maps and in return could win a set a phone, tablet or gift vouchers for their effort.
However, a complaint filed by the by Survey of India alleges that the contest was illegal and risked India’s national security.
Although Google maintains their contest adhered to all the laws, the New Delhi police has confirmed the complaint and have forwarded to the “cybercell for further action.”
Google also said they’re willing to discuss specific concerns with the authorities, if need be.
