Airtel today became the India’s first operator to launch 4G services and Kolkata will be the first region that will allow high-speed wireless internet speeds. Airtel will use network based on TD-LTE and promises to deliver speeds of up to 40Mbps.
Disappointingly, there are no smartphones or tablets to take advantage of but Airtel will sell wireless modem and a 4G multi-mode USB dongle priced at Rs. 7,750 and Rs. 7,999 respectively. As for the plans the cheapest one starts from Rs. 999 that gives free usage of 6GB and limits speeds to 128kbps after the FUP.
Other plan options include a Rs. 1,399 plan giving 9GB of free data usage at LTE speeds and Rs. 1,999 that gives up to 18GB.
Airtel will launch its 4G service in the coming months in Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai).
I don’t think that it going to work in India after seeing the response for 3G services at least for this running year.
