Apple has quietly pushed its sub-$1000 iMac for educational institutions. The lower-priced model is marked as “Education only” and is spec’d down to complement the lower price. Unlike the 21.5-inch iMac available in retail, the education-only variant does not have Thunderbolt port. It sports a mini Display port and features 3.1GHz dual-core Core i3 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6750 GPU, 2GB RAM which is configurable up to 8GB, 250GB HDD, Super Drive, Lion OS and connectivity options like USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi, SDXC card slot and Ethernet.
The iMac is available from Apple’s Higher Education Store.
