Canon has announced that they’ve created a new CMOS image sensor, which is the world’s largest that can be produced from a 12-inch (300mm) wafer. The sensor measures 202x205mm, making it 40 times larger than size of Canon’s largest commercial CMOS sensor and is capable of gathering more light for an image or a video.
Canon claims the sensor is capable to record videos at 60 frames per second in just 0.3 lux of light. For the non-technical lads, the sensor captures decent quality images and videos in one-half the brightness of a moonlit night.
There’s no word on when we’ll be able to see it in action.
