HTC acknowledges its move to shift to SLCD from AMOLED

AMOLED

Well, we already knew what HTC was up to but today they’ve thrown in an official press release acknowledging the use of new displays. HTC will now use Super LCD Display (SLCD) in its variety of phones and specifically in Nexus One and Desire that previously used a 3.7-inch AMOLED display. The reason for the switch is the shortage of AMOLED display and high demand of HTC phones.

HTC says SLCD provides “comparable visual experience” to AMOLED with “some additional benefits including battery performance.” Additionally, the SLCDs are claimed to be five times better in power management as compared to conventional LCDs and provide wider viewing angle, improved contrast and colors.
