In the bustle of 3D TVs and e-book readers, Haier was showing an interesting product on the CES show floor. Haier introduced a prototype of a wireless HD television that was powered from the energy created by a nearby magnetic field.
Haier’s TV was using MIT’s WiTricity technology that converts the AC power to a higher frequency which is fed to a coil (power source). The current fed to the source then creates an oscillating magnetic field and the device to be powered captures it with the help of an integrated power capture coil, which then converts to AC or DC current as per the device’s specifications.
No word on the expected availability but if we were to make a wild guess, it should be sometime in late 2010 or early next year.
