It was rumored for a long time and even semi-confirmed by a Nvidia employee recently but it was not acknowledged by Microsoft until now. In an official Zune Insider podcast, Matt Akers, the show host and the product team member confirmed that Nvidia’s Tegra is indeed the multimedia brain behind Zune HD who thinks it as a “mini laptop in your hand.”
Tegra-powered means, Zune HD also gains additional advantages like better graphics and battery life and capable to output 1080p via HDMI. However, Zune HD is only capable to output 720p content via an AV Dock, which suggests that full HD playback might have been reserved by Microsoft for future Zune iterations.
Zune is expected to arrive in fall with September 5 as the rumored date.
