iPhone 3G S announced, coming to India in August

Apple iPhone 3G S

Apple finally lifted the curtains from the next iPhone, which is dubbed as the iPhone 3G S (S stands for Speed, Gruber was right!). iPhone 3G S is faster than the current iPhone and has a lot of improvements and features like high speed 7.2Mbps HSDPA., Open GL|ES 2.0, Voice control, integrated digital compass, Nike+ support, hardware encryption including remote wipe and a battery life of up to 9 hours on 2G or 5 hours on a 3G network.

Apple has also upped the camera to 3 megapixel with camera pertinent features like autofocus, autoexposure, tap focus (tap on the screen to focus), improved low light sensitivity and video recording at 30fps VGA resolution.

As expected, the price points of the iPhone 3G will be replaced by iPhone 3G S, which will be $199 and $299 for 16 and 32GB respectively. iPhone 3G 8GB will now sell for $99 with the same contract commitments. (These prices are only for US)

Over 80 countries will get the iPhone 3G S starting from June 19 in US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, UK, Spain and Switzerland. Few other countries will join from June 26 while the remaining ones will have either a July or an August launch.

iPhone 3G was launched on August 22 last year in India so we can expect the same dates for the newer version too.

PS: iPhone 3G S will be equipped with iPhone OS 3.0 but original iPhone users will be able to update their firmware for free from June 17 while iPod Touch users will have to pay $9.95.

Sounds good! The reason I didn’t buy an iPhone was that I found it too pricey for its worth, but this new version sounds tempting!

Sound decent to me. since the actual price of iphone 3g will reduce to 1/2 of Rs30,000 & iphone 3g S will be available in between the range of Rs 30,000 – 33,000. It will be worth spending on iphone 3g S & it open door for every possible range of consumer to use iphone. It will soon be the addiction & iphone 3g will be common. So think bright if you want to be common or above the standerd. 🙂

@Naved: You’re being too optimistic about the price. I reckon the price of iPhone 3G will hover around the 22-25k mark.
