HDMI Licensing LLC, who handles the licensing of HDMI have released the specification of HDMI 1.4. Notable enhancements in the new standard will be the inclusion of Ethernet and Audio Return. The HDMI 1.4 cables will integrate a data channel that will allow the HDMI capable device to send and receive data up to 100Mb/sec. The Audio Return Channel eliminates the use of an extra cable to deliver audio upstreaming. With the new cable, the Audio Return Channel will send the audio stream directly to the A/V receiver from the HDTV.
Other features include 3D over HDMI, greater resolution support than the current 1080p, expanded color spaces, micro HDMI connector and automotive connection system.
