Scott Forstall, SVP iPhone Software unveiled the updated iPhone OS. The OS is touted to be equally beneficial to developers as well as customers. In addition to the existing APIs, Apple will be offering 1000 new APIs to developers to develop better apps for the iPhone. There are a lot exciting features for the consumers as well.
– P2P over Bluetooth via Bonjour: Users can create an IP connection for gaming and other things
– In-game Purchases: Allows users to purchase app pertinent features right from inside the game
– Turn-by-turn directions
– Push Notifications
– In-game Voice
– Streaming Video and Audio in the apps
– Cut, Copy and Paste: Double tap the word, select the text through the grab points. Works with almost every app.
– MMS
– Forward, Delete SMS conversations
– Bluetooth A2DP
– Voice Memo: Can record memos via built-in mic or external mic and then edit, send it to others
– Universal Search: Capable of searching in all key applications
– Spotlight: New homescreen to search through notes, iPod, Calendar etc.
Developers can test out the OS right away while iPhone users will get it for free this summer. iPod Touch users need to pay $9.95 for the update. Also 1G iPhone users won’t be able to have MMS and A2DP functions.
