Apple India reveals prices of updated desktop line, still unaffordable for many

Apple iMac

Not that we were surprised by the prices but it will be sad for people who were looking to snag the most affordable Mac at a decent price tag. The new Mac Mini price starts from Rs. 36,600, which at that price could get you a powerful souped up desktop (with a monitor). The 20-inch 2.66GHz iMac will go for Rs. 70,200 while 24-inch (2.66GHz/2.93GHz/3.06GHz) iMacs will sell for Rs. 87,000/1,04,900/1,25,900 respectively.

Mac Pro also got the same Xeon processor upgrade. The quad-core Mac Pro will retail for Rs. 1,42,700 and 8-core Pro for 1,88,900.

Ok, we know comparing Indian prices with the US ones is not right, but charging almost $200 premium (in some cases, more than that) dampens our Mac spirit.

Mac Mini: Indian Price – Rs. 36,600/$710; US – $599
20-inch iMac: Indian Price – Rs. 70,200/$1358; US – $1199
24-inch iMac (2.66GHz): Indian Price – Rs. 87,000/$1550; US – $1499
24-inch iMac (2.93GHz): Indian Price – Rs. 1,04,900/$2031; US – $1799
24-inch iMac (3.06GHz): Indian Price – Rs. 1,25,900/$2438; US – $2199
Quad-Core Mac Pro: Indian Price – Rs. 1,42,700/$2768; US – $2499
Eight-Core Mac Pro: Indian Price – Rs. 1,88,900/$3666; US – $3299
