Canon USA introduced EOS 50D DSLR camera for budding amateur photographers. The new 50D camera improves on one of Canon’s popular offerings, the EOS 40D. It will have a 15.1 megapixel sensor equipped with an intelligent and fast DIGIC 4 image processor capable of shooting 6.3 frames each second. ISO settings on the EOS 50D now range from 100 – 12800 and has an advanced noise reduction for a perfect image on higher ranges.

The camera also boasts peripheral illumination correction for perfect color toning and integrated cleaning system with fluorine coating to help fend off the dust. Other improvements over the 40D are a 3-inch LCD screen with more pixel count and better live view functions, Creative Full Auto setting (CA) for users to edit settings in layman’s terms (for instance, ‘blur the background’) while shooting photos in automatic mode. Two small RAW formats have also been added, sRAW1 and sRAW2 making the megapixel count scale to 7.1 and 3.8 respectively without losing the RAW format benefits.

The camera will be selling for $1400 apiece and $1600 with the included Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens.

The Canon EOS 50D looks really like a great camera. Until now I found a lot of good reviews about it. Are there any alternatives for beginners which are a little cheaper?
