A couple of years back, a mobile revolution was started in India. A revolution which resulted us to enjoy the cheapest call rates, free incoming calls and also gathered a wide interest from manufacturers because of the spurt in the demand for phones. A report from IDC just proves that. It says that the Financial Year 08 was the best, handset manufacturers have seen. 85 million units were shipped in the whole FY and 22.3 million units alone Q1 2008 which makes to 10000 units shipped every hour.
From the market perspective, it comes as no surprise that Nokia still dominates in India with a staggering market share of 52.8% followed by LG at 10.2% and Samsung at 8.3%.
Note: This report counts for handsets officially shipped. The gray market still has an impact in India which can easily make the figure cross the 100 million mark.
