Desktop PCs, though powerful, take a lot of space in real world and if you consider an office environment, desktop PCs take a considerable amount of space making them unfeasible. All-in-one PCs solve this problem and the latest entrant in this category is Asus’ ET2040 AIO PC, which we’re taking a look today.
The Asus ET2040 has an interesting and an unobtrusive design. The computer has a clean front with just the display and a front-facing camera whereas the ports are placed on the sides. The back sports stereo speakers along with an adjustable stand.
The Asus ET2040 features a 19.5-inch display that has a resolution of 1366×768. Although we expected a higher resolution display (at least a Full HD panel) and possibly touch support, the ET2040’s display panel is decent. The viewing angle is good with good brightness and contrast.
The AIO’s processing prowess is handled by Intel’s Pentium J2900 2.4GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM and comes with integrated Intel graphics. The PC can run applications like Photoshop or multiple tabs (more than 20 tabs) on Google Chrome but given the limited amount of RAM (which by the way is non-upgradable in the future), the PC shows signs of sluggishness. However, if you’re looking predominantly for light to medium web browsing and working with Office applications, the ET2040 works flawlessly.
The ET2040 has couple of features that distinguishes the AIO with the rest of the offerings. First is the integrated battery that offers a battery backup of up to 1-1.5 hours. This is pretty handy if you have got an unwarranted power cuts as it enables you to work for a longer period of time, in addition to saving your precious data. Another interesting feature is the gesture control.
Using the integrated camera, the ET2040 can be controlled with hand-gestures allowing to play songs, zoom or rotate photos without touching the screen, keyboard and mouse. Think of it as Kinect for the AIO and works fine once you get used to the gestures.
On the software side, the ET2040 runs Windows 8.1 and also comes pre-loaded with Asus apps and is bundled with a wired keyboard and mouse.
The ET2040 retails for Rs. 24,999 and given the hardware it comes with, the AIO is perfect for light to medium usage for Office work. The battery backup is a plus given how frequent power cuts are in the country.
