UPDATE: Now ToI reports that all this is BS and the RIM has not really given access to servers but mere the location of the server.
The brouhaha between Research in Motion and the Indian Government might finally come to an end as Blackberry makers have decided to cave into the government’s demands. Research in Motion will setup a local server in India and also provide full data access to the authorities and government will review the situation for 60 days, after which the final decision will be made.
RIM’s decision came in a day before the deadline where government would have asked cellular operators to cut off Blackberry services if the issue was not resolved.
There are about million Blackberry subscribers in India and it will be interesting to see their reaction since they were initially assured that their privacy will be maintained.
