Seagate will unveil a new ultra-thin hard drive at the CES expo that begins from next month. The HDD will be just 7mm thick as compared to the prevalent 9.5mm or 12.5mm drives. Seagate is keeping rest of the details under wraps but it will be interesting to see how much capacity these thinner drives will boast. With a larger girth, hard drive manufacturers were able to incorporate more platters thus, giving more storage to users.
But shoving of extra few millimeters from a hard drive could prove in handy for computer manufacturers. They can churn out slimmer ultraportable notebooks that are superior to netbooks but sell at a similar price.
