We just featured the X-Mini II Capsule Speaker but if you’re considering spending more and getting double the output, you should check out the X-Mini Max II. The Max II is also in its second generation, adopts a different design resembling an oversized capsule but pull it apart from its clinging magnetic force and you’ve a two speakers delivering stereo sound.
The package contents of the X-Mini Max II are similar to Mini II that comprises of the speaker unit, one pouch, manual and mini-USB cable integrated with 3.5mm audio jack and volume controls.
Unlike the Mini II, the Max II has a different way to connect to an audio device. The Max II Capsule Speakers make use of the mini-USB cable to connect itself while the 3.5mm audio cable goes into the audio device. This is not a big hassle but kind of makes the setup a bit messy with the cable lying around. Also the same cable has an 3.5mm audio input, which means if you were to damage your bundled USB cable, you’d have to find a similar mini-USB-3.5mm integrated cable to make use of the speakers again. However, another convenient solution would be to get a cable with two 3.5mm audio jacks and use the speaker via the Buddy Jack. Yes, it has Buddy Jack to add more speakers to enhance loudness.
Speaking of its audio quality, the Max II expectedly performs better than Mini II. The Max II is louder thanks to its dual speakers and also sounded better than Mini II. It also has the Bass Xpansion System, which means the added bass thumping effect is just a twist away. Overall, the audio output was rich and audible, enough to reach all corners of a 125-150 sq. ft. room.
The Max II hosts a 400mAh battery that claims to give half a day of playback. Well, we didn’t get that much but in the range of around 9 hours, similar to Mini II.
Comparing the Mini II Capsule and Max II Capsule speakers, I think Mini II is more apt for laptop users who need a decent solution to play out music loud sometimes or during presentations. However, Max II is more inclined towards music aficionados where they want to enjoy a 2-channel sound while on the move or relaxing on the beach. It sells for US$50 or about Rs. 1,300.
