You’re not wrong if you think that the DSi LL (or DSi XL) and PSPgo were introduced just to buy some more time for a worthy successor. A report has emerged on Eurogamer that details on what could power the successor of these handheld consoles. The next-gen DS is expected sometime in late 2010 and according to their sources, it will be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chipset. If true, the integration of the chipset will not only make it faster than the current generation DS but also than the current Tegra-enabled devices (like the Zune HD).
On the other hand, Nintendo’s archrival, Sony is rumored to adopt IMG’s PowerVR chipset. It will be multi-core variant of SGX543 that, in theory, will be more powerful than Tegra 2-powered DS but will come at a cost. This rumored PSP is expected to arrive sometime in 2011.
