It seems the e-book reader market is following the same trend as the netbook market. Every company wants a piece of the market and though each product is more or less the same, they’ll try to offer some distinguishing factor over the other one. We’ve already seen a number of companies selling their e-book readers and the latest in the line will be MSI.
MSI’s chairman Joseph Hsu confirmed they’re developing an e-book reader powered by Nvidia Tegra platform. The integration of Tegra suggests that MSI might be behind something big, maybe allowing the e-book reader to do more. Other details are still under wraps but the Taiwanese company plans to reveal more details in the first half of next year.
Speaking of Taiwanese companies, Gigabyte have no plans for an e-book reader whereas Asus is inching towards the launch of its first reader. Asus e-book reader is said to have a 9-inch monochrome display and will hit retail shelves as early as Q1 2010.

It seems as if the market is going to be flooded with entries of portable ebook readers. Under normal circumstances I would say the consumer can only benefit from this deluge. I hope that is true. Maybe the existing entries will improve their offering in order to keep ahead of the newbies. In particular, I would like to see the nook ebook reader with the ability to run Android aps.
