Nintendo tried the camera motion-sensing controllers few years back but rejected it, confessed Satoru Iwata to Financial Times. His reasoning for passing the tech – which actually looks a promising one – was that the accelerometer based controllers produced better accuracy than the camera based ones.
He also said that though they rejected it, he doesn’t know if it was the right decision and depends on what price Sony and Microsoft will charge for their wares.
“Until they say when they’re releasing it, how much it costs and what software it comes with, we won’t know whether that is the route we should have taken. However…I think they couldn’t choose to release exactly the same thing.”
On a side note, I think Nintendo was right in its decision. Controllers from Microsoft and Sony involve a lot of hardware that will probably escalate the cost and make them sell above $60 which is actually the price of Wii controller and MotionPlus.
