It seems Sony has been cursed with the never ending battery woes. A new voluntary recall of around 100,000 Sony manufactured batteries has been issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after a few reported incidents, some including burns to the users. Out of the total number, about 35,000 batteries were sold with laptops in US from HP, Toshiba and Dell whereas the remaining units were sold worldwide as separate battery packs.
Sony says the problem occurred because of the manufacturing line adjustments made from October 2004 to June 2005, which affected some battery cells produced during that period. Click here to know the full list of laptops along with the recall program details.
On a side note, Sony also said that their VAIO line of laptops are unaffected by this recall since they used different battery cell types. Interesting!
