Apple and Google have officially entered into a multi-year partnership that will have Apple build its Apple Foundation Models upon Google’s Gemini models and cloud tech.
This is a major development and a significant shift in Apple’s AI strategy. As per the agreement, Google’s technology will serve as the underlying framework for future Apple Intelligence features. This includes a major overhaul of Siri, which will become more personalized slated to be released later this year.
Apple’s decision to go with Gemini comes after “careful evaluation,” making Gemini the preferred choice for its Foundation Models. Despite the integration of Google’s cloud-based AI, Apple has emphasized that Apple Intelligence will continue to run locally on Apple devices and on Private Cloud Compute, which is cloud intelligence system designed specifically for private AI processing.
