Apple has rolled out the “Hypertension Notifications” feature for Apple Watch users in India, enabling the wearable to alert users who may show signs of chronic high blood pressure.
How it Works
- The feature uses the Apple Watch’s optical heart sensor to monitor how a user’s blood vessels respond to each heartbeat.
- The algorithm operates passively for 30 days, reviewing data trends rather than producing instant blood pressure readings.
- If the watch detects consistent signs suggestive of potential hypertension, it issues a “possible hypertension” alert.
One thing to note here is that this feature is not a medical diagnosis tool — Apple says that users who receive a notification use a traditional blood pressure cuff and log readings for seven days before consulting a physician.
Compatible Devices
The Hypertension Notifications feature works on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, and Ultra models (Ultra 2/Ultra 3), provided they are running the latest version of watchOS (watchOS 26 or later). Additionally, users need a compatible iPhone (iPhone 11 or later) and must enable Wrist Detection.
