Foldable phones are a big deal for Samsung, so color us surprised when Samsung decided to give its first tri-fold device, an official confirmation by way of a press release and not a full-fledged event. Nevertheless, here it is – the Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung’s first device with a multi-folding design.
Unlike Huawei’s tri-fold phone, Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold uses an inward-folding design to protect the main display, which Samsung says has been “precisely engineered” for easy opening and closing, and comes with an auto-alarm that alerts the user to incorrect folding through a series of on-screen alerts and vibrations. Moreover, the Armor FlexHinge in Samsung’s foldable phones has also been upgraded. Two differently sized hinges with a dual-rail structure work in harmony, creating a smoother, more stable fold despite varying weight and components across the device.
Samsung says the Galaxy Z TriFold features a 6.5-inch cover screen but unfolding the device reveals the 10-inch display real estate in its entirety. Both the main and the cover screen are Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with 120Hz refresh rate but the resolution and the brightness are different.

A completely opened Galaxy Z TriFold measures just 3.9mm but packs some serious power to meet today’s high-consumption and content creation needs. It comes with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a 200 MP camera, a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery system that has been placed in each of the 3 panels of the device for balanced power delivery and a 45W fast charging support.
On the software side, Samsung has focused on the multi-tasking aspect and understandably so, given the large screen. The Galaxy Z TriFold will allow users three different portrait-sized apps side-by-side. It also is one of the first devices from Samsung to come with standalone Samsung DeX, enabling a fully working environment with access of up to four workspaces that can each run five apps simultaneously.
Galaxy AI will also be a part of the Galaxy Z TriFold, along with a tighter integration of Google’s Gemini Live.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will see a limited release with South Korea getting their first dibs on Dec 12 followed by other markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the US at a price of around US$2500.
