Google is rolling out its Gemini AI system to televisions, expanding the technology beyond smartphones and PCs as it looks to deepen integration with its Google TV platform.
Gemini builds on Google Assistant’s set of features, which enabled voice commands on smart TVs. However, instead of handling only basic requests like searching for shows or controlling smart home devices, Gemini will allow users to hold conversations with their televisions, ask follow-up questions, and receive detailed answers supported by YouTube videos.
A few things that Gemini on TV can do are recommend programming based on multiple viewers’ preferences, summarize past seasons of a show, or identify trending series based on vague descriptions. Beyond entertainment, it can answer questions related to school projects, travel planning, or cooking.
The service launches today on TCL’s QM9K series and will extend later this year to more devices, including the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn. 4K Pro, Hisense’s 2025 U7, U8, and UX models, and additional TCL sets.
Google TV powers more than 300 million devices globally and competes with Amazon’s Fire TV, Roku, Samsung’s Tizen platform and the Apple TV 4K in the connected television market.
