Qualcomm and Samsung have announced their flagship smartphone SoCs and now MediaTek has just unveiled the new Dimensity duo. It was announced alongside the Dimensity 1100 but the 1200 is the real star here that focuses on performance, speed and features.
Based on TSMC’s 6nm process, the Dimensity 1200 has an octa-core CPU with one Cortex-A78 ultra-core clocking at up to 3GHz whereas the remaining three Arm Cortex-A78 super cores at 2.6GHz. The quad Cortex-A55 efficient cores boast up to 2GHz of clock speed. Handling the GPU duty is ARM’s Mali-G77 MC9 along with MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technology that enables better gaming performance with Ray Tracing support, multi-touch boost, low latency audio and more.
Dimensity 1200 also supports camera sensors up to 200MP with five-core HDR-ISP and AI camera features whereas the videos can go up to 4K @ 60fps with HEVC support. For displays, the chipset features Full HD+ support with MediaTek MiraVision HDR and refresh rate to up to 168Hz.
Needless to say, it supports 5G with optimisations to offer improved speeds, coverage and reliability. It also supports latest Wi-Fi 6 standards and Bluetooth 5.2.
So when are the devices powered by Dimensity 1200 expected? We should see new devices from Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Realme by the end of this quarter.
