Samsung’s new flagship, the S9 and S9+ were announced at the ongoing Mobile World Congress, Barcelona. The devices have been leaking via various sources. And thankfully this puts an end to all the speculations. Continuing with the same display of Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ also features the 18.5:9 Infinity Display.

Galaxy S9 features Quad HD+ curved Super AMOLED screen measuring 5.8-inches. It will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos processor or the Snapdragon 845 processor (in some markets). The phone comes with 4GB RAM and gives the option of storage either 64GB or 256GB. The battery is rated at 3000mAh, not sure if this is enough to power the device for a whole day.

On the other hand the Galaxy S9+ features a larger 6.2-inch screen, 6GB RAM, 64GB or 256GB storage. The processor will be once again Samsung’s own Exynos or Snapdragon 845. Both the phones support microSD card, fast charging and wireless charging support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, LTE Cat. 18 support, Samsung Pay and DeX Pad. The phones are secured by Knox 3.1 and supports three biometric authentication options – iris, fingerprint sensor and facial recognition.

Samsung in all the promotions have focussed on the redefined camera of Galaxy S9 and 9+. The rear camera is 12-megapixel dual sensor with Samsung Dual Aperture (f/1.5-f/2.4) which automatically lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright. The new camera is also able to record slow-motion videos at 960fps. Other features based on the camera are AR Emoji that works like Apple’s Animoji, but scans and creates a 3D model of the user’s face and Bixby supporting live translation, convert currency, etc. Both the devices run Android Oreo.

Samsung has also worked on the audio front that has stereo speakers tuned by AKG and surround sound by Dolby Atmos.

The phone will go on sale from March 16 in select markets in Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and Lilac Purple colours. The devices would be available from March 16, however, Samsung has not revealed the India pricing. In the US, the unlocked version of the device sells for $719.99 for the Galaxy S9 and $839.99 for the Galaxy S9+. In India, one can already pre-book the new devices by paying Rs. 2,000.
