At CES, Xiaomi announced a partnership with Oculus to bring Mi VR Standalone. As the name suggests, it’s a standalone VR head-mounted display that does not require to be tethered to a smartphone and will sell exclusively in China. If you’re wondering, Mi VR Standalone is similar to Oculus Go and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 along with 2K high-resolution display spatial audio tech developed by Oculus and more.
Xiaomi will focus on the device’s video playing capability and localise for an improved social experience. The device supports both — Oculus Mobile SDK and the Mi VR SDK and is working with developers to bring their content from the Oculus Store to the Mi VR Store in China.
