As expected, Apple made the new iPhones official. However, contrary to Apple’s nomenclature, the new iPhones will be known as the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. The new iPhones now boast an updated design, faster hardware and few more bells and whistles.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are water and dust resistant that comes with a glass back design made using a seven-layer colour process for precise hue and opacity to match space grey, silver and gold finishes.
On the hardware side, the new 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays have got True Tone that helps to adjust the white balance of the display. The redesigned stereo speakers are now 25 percent louder and the phones now come with A11 Bionic processor, which is a hexa-core chip with two performance cores and four efficiency cores outperforming A10 Fusion by 25 percent and 70 percent respectively.
Camera-wise, the iPhone 8 has an improved 12-megapixel camera with a larger and a faster sensor, 4K video support up to 60fps, and slo-mo in full HD at 240fps. iPhone 8 Plus on the other hand, features dual 12-megapixel cameras and introduces Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting, that allows to to capture portraits with a shallow depth-of-field effect in five different lighting styles.
Apple says the new iPhones are designed for AR and with the new glass design, the phones now support wireless charging. Apple also gave a glimpse of AirPower charging mat – due next year – that supports Qi wireless standard and allows to charge up to 3 devices simultaneously.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will come in 64GB and 256GB variants with the iPhone 8 variants priced at Rs. 64,000 and Rs. 77,000 respectively while the iPhone 8 Plus will sell for Rs. 73,000 and Rs. 86,000. The phones will go in sale in India from Friday, September 29.
