The much-anticipated offer from Jio, the JioPhone will be available for pre-booking today from 5.30PM onwards on Jio.com. The phone can also be booked offline via Jio Store. Initially, the user has to pay Rs. 500 for the booking and the balance Rs. 1000 once he is allotted the phone at the store in September. Besides this, one has to pay Rs. 153 (minimum recharge) to use the JioPhone. This recharge offers unlimited calling, unlimited data (500MB per day) and 300 SMS (per month). The next recharge of Rs. 309 will offer TV connectivity option, however, you will have to purchase a separate media cable accessory. The plan would feature 1GB data per day and calls/SMS will be free.
Coming to the specifications and features of the JioPhone, this phone sports a QVGA 2.4-inch display. The phone is powered by KaiOS, an open source micro Linux distribution that is small in size. The phone supports single Nano SIM. The processor inside is dual-core Spreadtrum 9820A/QC8905 and comes with 512MB RAM. The internal storage is 4GB with support for expandable storage up to 128GB. The rear camera is 2-megapixel and front is 0.3-megapixel. Besides VoLTE/LTE support, other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1 with BLE, GPS and USB 2.0. In terms of office productivity, the phone support Microsoft Exchange and comes with 22 Indian languages, namely, Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Installed Jio Apps include MyJio, JioTV, JioCinema, JioChat, JioMusic, JioXpressNews. The highlight of the phone is the Voice Assistant that supports Voice enabled search in both English and Hindi. It can even compose SMS, search on Google, open Applications and connect calls.
