Feature phone users who could not join the Jio revolution of data and free calls can now make the leap by purchasing the newly launched Jio VoLTE feature phone. At the 40th Reliance Industries AGM, Mukesh Ambani announced the much-awaited phone. This will enable 2G users to use 4G network. The current average of smartphone ranges from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,500. The JioPhone looks a conventional candy-bar phone but accepts voice-commands for almost any function. It also comes with a distress call that dials to your preferred contact by long-pressing the ‘5’ on numeric keypad.
As far as hardware specs go, the JioPhone sports a 2.5-inch QVGA screen, microSD Card slot, FM Radio. Later this year, the phone will also receive NFC capability with a software update. You need to pay Rs. 1500 deposit and can get the full refund after 3 years. To keep using the phone you will need to recharge the phone for Rs. 153.
Another highlight of the JioPhone is that at a separate cost you can buy a TV connectivity cable to mirror the content of the JioPhone. The advantage is that it supports any TV type like CRT, LED etc. The JioPhone will be available from September, however, one needs to pre-book the phone starting 24 August.
