Rumours about a new PS4.5 or PS4K have been swirling for a while suggesting that Sony will launch an improved PS4 later this year that will have native 4K support. Now website, Giant Bomb has dropped some meaty details about the upcoming gaming console after a close inspection of some documents that they’ve purportedly got their hands on.
The new PS4 is known as NEO internally and according to the website, the console will boast an improved CPU with a higher clock speed, better GPU and RAM with higher amount of bandwidth. NEO will support up to 4K resolution and more importantly will sell at the same price of $399.
With a newer PS4 in tow, what about owners with existing PS4s? The report says Sony does not want to alienate existing users and more than 30 million PS4 users will co-exist with the ones buying the NEO model.
Developers will have the option to offer richer environment for NEO but won’t be allowed to develop content, offer exclusive gameplay options or special unlockables for the newer console.
While Sony has not officially confirmed anything about NEO, given the rumours doing the rounds, this is as real as it gets.
We expect Sony to make some concrete announcement around E3 in June.
