Lenovo has evolved its Yoga series over the years and unlike it was in its infancy, today, Lenovo has a Yoga laptop in every price segment. Right from Yoga 300 that caters to the entry-level crowd to Yoga 3 Pro in the premium segment. Today, we’re taking a look at the Yoga 3 14 that is a notch lower and slightly more affordable than it super expensive Yoga 3 Pro.
Design & Build:
The Yoga 3 14 may not be as beautiful as Yoga 3 Pro but the Yoga 3 14 is certainly not a bad looking device. The metal finish looks premium and has a brushed carbon black finish that gives the laptop a distinct look. As far as port placements go, the charging port along with one USB 3.0 port, 3.5mm headphone jack and an SD card reader are on the left hand side while the right hand side sports another USB 3.0 port, power button, volume buttons and microHDMI. The laptop is slim at 18.3mm and lightweight too with a weight of just 1.6kg.
Overall, the design is good when you compare it with its competitors and feels solid in the hands while using. The hinge is durable and keeps the screen nicely aligned at a particular angle even after swiveling the screen a multiple times.
Performance:
The Lenovo Yoga 3 14 is equipped with Intel’s 5th generation Core i7-5500U processor and is complemented with 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 940M (2GB) and 256GB SSD. Needless to say, the notebook is more than capable for performance intensive tasks, including gaming.
The display on the Yoga 3 14 is a 14-inch one with a Full HD (1920×1080) resolution and touchscreen support. The result is crisp picture quality and good viewing angles but the display has a glossy glass that makes it a fingerprint magnet, in case you use it as a tablet.
The battery life is noteworthy as well, which gave us around 7.5-8 hours of run time with balanced usage that included working with documents, web browsing and few hours of video watching.
The chiclet keyboard on the Yoga 3 14 is a joy to use. Although the keys do not have a tactile feedback, the soft keys ensure a good experience without compromising on the typing speed. Additionally, the keyboard is backlit but there’s no option to adjust the brightness of the light.
The laptop runs Windows 8.1 out of the box and is upgradable to Windows 10. You’ll find some pre-loaded software on the device like the Harmony. This software detects if the device is being used in laptop, tent, stand or tablet mode and offers app recommendation according to the mode and optimises settings. Furthermore, the software also gives handy statistics on which Yoga mode is used the most.
Conclusion:
The Yoga 3 14 excels in every department. You’ve got a good solid design that is built to last and performance to match with an excellent battery life to use it as your daily driver.
