Sony develops Digital TV Tuner for mobile devices

Sony has announced that they’ve developed a new Digital TV (DTV) Tuner Module designed for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets. Touted as the world’s smallest DTV tuner, Sony says despite the small size, the tuner offers improved reception with low power consumption, which is one of the top most priority when you’re integrating it in a mobile device. The SMT-EW100 series supports various types of digital terrestrial TV broadcast systems, including DVB-T, DVB-T2, DVB-T2 Lite, ISDB-T and ISDB-Tmm.

Although Sony hasn’t confirmed if we’ll see this module in any of its smartphones but has promised to start shipping the module to interested manufacturers from May 2015.
