HERE Maps comes to Android but will be exclusive to Samsung smartphones

Technically, HERE Maps is already on Android courtesy Nokia X but it will be the first time the service will be available to regular non-forked Android devices. As part of the agreement, Samsung Galaxy devices will get the privilege to use the HERE Maps with free voice guided navigation on compatible handsets like Galaxy S5. This is an exclusive deal, which means the app could arrive on Samsung’s Galaxy store and not the Google Play Store.

HERE also confirmed that Samsung’s Tizen-based devices will also support navigation and Gear S will be the first device to support it. Going forward, HERE plans to make it available for rest of the Gear smartwatches and Tizen-powered smartphones.

The app will be available in October to coincide with the launch of Gear S.
