Samsung has announced a new mSATA SSD that claims to be the industry’s first mSATA (mini-SATA) SSD with 1TB of storage space. The 840 EVO mSATA SSD brings massive storage at a quarter of a size of a 2.5-inch SSD and is just 3.85mm thin and weighs just 8.5g.
Samsung says the SSD is based on 64 10nm 128Gb NAND flash memory that is stacked in four separate memory packages and offers a sequential read speed of 540MB/s and write speed of 520MB/s. The drive can even achieve a sequential read speed to up to 1000MB/s on RAPID mode with the integrated Samsung Magician 4.3 software.
Moreover, the mSATA SSD supports 256-bit AES encryption, Windows 8 and is even compatible with another storage device like SSD or HDD, provided the PC has an mSATA socket.
Samsung plans to release the 840 EVO mSATA SSD this month.
