In a bid to become the world’s first, LG Display today announced the mass production of the flexible OLED panel for smartphones. LG says their panel is vertically concave from top to bottom with a radius of 700m and is built on plastic substrate, which uses film-type encapsulation to make the panel bendable and unbreakable. The display measures 6-inches diagonally and weighs just 7.2g.
LG does not reveal when the first model with the curved display will be launched but the speculation is rife for a November announcement.
LG is competing with its cross town rival Samsung who will announce their first product later this week.
