Google introduced the $35 Chromecast that allowed apps from your Android device to stream content to an HDTV. However, the only things you can stream right now are YouTube, Netflix, Google Play Movies & TV, Google Play Music and nothing stored locally on the Android device.
Thankfully, Koushik Dutta’s AirCast aims to solve it. With AirCast you can stream content stored in the gallery, Dropbox or even Google Drive.
One thing to note here is that this is just a beta and Dutta says he managed to achieve it by “reverse engineering the Chromecast protocols”.
We’re not sure how Google will take this app but since it’s a beta, the app will expire in two days, which means you’ve limited time to try it out.
