The biggest announcement at the WWDC 2013 is the unveiling of the iOS 7. Apple claims this is the “most significant iOS update since the original iPhone” and frankly, it’s evident with the user interface, colour palette and typography. The new iOS 7 boasts a cleaner and a simpler look and Apple says the new interface makes the phone appear bigger as it’s designed to take advantage of the entire screen.
The iOS 7 features Control Center that gives a quick access to controls like Wi-Fi, Airplane mode, Bluetooth by swiping from the bottom of the screen. The Notification Center has also got an improvement and is now accessible from the lock screen.
Multitasking has got some attention in the new iOS as the operating system will pay attention to the user’s preferred set of apps and will keep the content updated in the background so they can check it instantly.
AirDrop is Apple’s version of Wi-Fi Direct but works in an intuitive way. The AirDrop will show nearby contacts and users can quickly share content wirelessly without any hassle.
The Camera app has also got a revamp with photo filters and square camera button to quickly change to video, photo, square or panorama with just a swipe.
Other improvements include new Music app with the iTunes Radio service, better Siri integration, FaceTime for audio calls, enhanced in-car integration, Find My iPhone Activation Lock and lots more.
The iOS 7 beta is available to developers right now while the update will be available to consumers later this year on iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch 5th gen.
