Intel’s EVP, Tom Kilroy at the Computex today unveiled the 22nm-based Atom system-on-chip (SoC) that will power the upcoming tablets expected this holiday season. Codenamed as Bay Trail-T, the SoC features a quad-core CPU that promises two times the CPU performance than current generation, supports both Android and Windows 8.1 and a battery life of up to 8 hours.
Additionally, Kilroy showed off the reference smartphone design based on “Merrifield,” which is Intel’s 22nm Atom SoC for smartphones. The detailed specs are unknown but Intel says the new chip will offer increased performance with extended battery life and an integrated sensor hub for “personalized services, as well as capabilities for data, device and privacy protection.”
