Japan Display – a consortium between Sony, Hitachi, Innovation Network Corporation of Japan and Toshiba has developed a new 5.2-inch OLED panel that boasts a full HD 1920×1080 pixels resolution.
The panel achieves a pixel density of 423 ppi with the combination of low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS), white OLED and drive technologies and uses red, green, blue and white pixel.
This is an important breakthrough in the OLED market since only Samsung Display is the only company to have achieved a full HD resolution in a mobile device and that will be used in the upcoming Galaxy S4.
Japan Display’s creation, when mass produced, could be used in devices sold by other manufacturers, thus sprucing up the competition in the OLED market.
