BlackBerry 10 is one of the few platforms that had 70,000 apps available on launch. Now that the total number of apps has crossed 100,000, BlackBerry’s Martyn Mallick, has revealed the ratio of Android apps versus BlackBerry native apps.
According to him, roughly 20 percent of the apps for BlackBerry 10 are Android apps. This means around 20,000 apps run on an emulation engine present in the phone.
The reason for BlackBerry to allow porting of Android apps was to give developers a taste of the platform and it seems the strategy has worked for them. Mallick says they gave a “nice on-ramp to get onto the platform” and now some app companies are developing native apps.
BlackBerry is also trying to woo devs with cash incentive – giving them a $10,000 guarantee for their app sold on the BlackBerry World.
