Japanese business newspaper Nikkei claims Panasonic is contemplating to exit from the Plasma TV business. Panasonic has been selling its real estate and other assets to keep a positive a financial position and the move to withdraw from making plasma TVs is seen as a part of its downsizing operation.
Newspaper says Panasonic projects to earn less than half trillion yen in 2015/16 and has already written off the value of production equipment at its main plant in Amagaskai.
We are considering a number of options regarding our TV business. But nothing has been decided yet.
Panasonic will apparently concentrate on making LCD TVs since developing both plasma and LCD TVs are proving to be inefficient.
