Last year, LG entered into a licensing agreement with ARM and it seems LG will further fuel its chip making ambitions, going by the latest Korea Times report. Apparently, LG’s first in-house designed chip will be showcased at the CES 2013 next month. Unlike Samsung who also manufactures their own SoCs, LG’s solution will be produced by Taiwan-based TSMC using 28nm process technology.
While other details are not known, the first chip will be for home entertainment device and identified as H13 – reflecting the home entertainment division and year.
The report also claims LG to have employed over 900 people to develop chips for smartphones and other devices.
