Research in Motion (RIM) has confirmed that its upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS is FIPS 140-2 certified, making it the first ever BlackBerry product to be certified before the launch.
FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) certification assures companies that the BB OS can handle the sensitive information with utmost security and encryption, thus making the OS and the BlackBerry Enterprise Service deployable right from the day of launch.
For the uninitiated, “FIPS 140 is issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for certifying cryptographic modules. The standard was developed through the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) that certifies products for use by U.S. government agencies and regulated industries that collect, store, transfer, share and disseminate sensitive information.”
